What Will Remain

In these times of uncertainty and pain
I often ponder what of this will remain
When we emerge from our sheltered abodes
And begin to live a ‘normal’ life once more

Will we have learned anything of value
From this heart-wrenching deathly lesson
And be kinder, gentler, treading lighter upon Mother earth
Determined to leave no lasting marks where we were
But what I truly wonder will this newfound wisdom last
Or be nothing more than a passing phase?

  1. I ask the same question in my poem today. I hope we have learned something, because I dont think we will ever see what passed for normal again.

  3. Let us pray the world learns many lessons from this “novel” virus that has become a global pandemic. I think it will be a long long time before we go back to a sense of “normalcy” — and then, I wonder what that “normal” was….turning our eye on the needy, on those without health insurance, on those in crowded living conditions, on those who serve us in restaurants with barely a living wage? So much to ponder these days as we try to remain inside and away from others but can not longer be aloof to these situations.

  4. You pose the trillion dollar question. Will this be like the furor over gun control after every mass shooting, which fades in a week, or will it etch realistic world views that could push us beyond our age old foibles?

  5. I feel as if covid-19 is a wave in a series that will wash over us. This time is practice, to be prepared for the next. If Mother Nature cannot get our internal compliance, it will get our external compliance — threat of death. I can’t say I blame Mother Nature.

Good question Linda! Somehow we mortals have short memories and never seem to learn!

  7. I hope lessons have been learnt from this pandemic. Generally, I have seen so much kindness, with people working together and apart. But it’s not over yet
