To Be Small

“Coming, going, the waterbirds don’t leave a trace” – (Dogen)

To be small among towering trees
To saunter through umber rustling leaves
Here is where my soul comes alive, thrives
When wind comes singing over hillsides

Sunset paints sky with an artist’s hand
Evening ambles in, drapes across the land
As the haunting call of common loons
Welcomes twilight and a full cold moon

  1. This is a hunting piece Linda, and I love the little shot of internal rhyme. Incidentally I love the sound of lake loons. I find them hypnotic and thrilling. Excellent piece!

We are such a small part of nature. If only we could be satisfied to be witness, and not be intent on leaving our mark.

  4. This is lovely, Linda. Small among trees is indeed spiritual, we have many here / my therapy. And of course after 23 years in Minnesota, loons are part of my DNA I think.
