Musings on Life, Love, and Linguine-Poetry & Writing
“Green was the silence, wet was the light,
the month of June trembled like a butterfly.”
― Pablo Neruda, 100 Love Sonnets
My brothers call me Sam, I’m the only girl
in a swollen sea of musk scented testosterone
Raised in a house full of grimy blacksmiths
Striking heavy headed hammers on iron
day in, day out constant pounding, grinding
while black ebony smoke chars sweaty air
Ancient leather bellows huff and labor,
provoking white blue blistering flames
A searing melting fire is a greedy bastard
when forging honed knives and fighting sabres
I guess it’s no wonder I have a penchant
for hammered metal on my tanned damp skin
As the scorching summer sun bears down
and fresh oxygen in the wind grows thin
I’m in love with the way cool iron steals pent up heat
sending it back to me in haunting trembling waves
Unbridled wanton ecstasy at the touch of hard steel
caressing my awakening body in knowing ways

A houseful of grimy blacksmiths! As the only girl in my original family, I can relate, though my father and brothers weren’t smithies. 🙂

I love the whole poem…and I really love this line, “I’m in love with the way cool iron steals pent up heat
sending it back to me in haunting trembling waves”

“I’m in love with the way cool iron steals pent up heat / sending it back to me in haunting trembling waves” – that’s brilliant.

An intriguing write that had a surprising touch of sexiness there at the end once cooled off!
