“We can never be gods, after all–but we can become something less than human with frightening ease.”
― N.K. Jemisin, The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms
To dream of Gods and omens in darkest night
brings no tranquility
for the soul wrestles and fights
with so little ability
to overcome the futility
of mortals against deities
and their predictions of what’s coming
and waiting…
In the stark light of day.

“so I wait for you like a lonely house
till you will see me again and live in me.
Till then my windows ache.”
― Pablo Neruda, 100 Love Sonnets
Empty now the house of my knife blade soul
for no longer does the light of your beautiful face shine
my bloody insistent heart now fragmented, broken, un-whole
and in its stead a black rot of grapes withering on the dead vine.
You have gone; taken with you, our turbulent love sea so deep
leaving naught but a bed of unyielding clay to lie upon as I weep.

Imaginary Garden with Real Toads: Play it again with ‘Old Toads’
Author’s Note: Kerry has given us a wonderful challenge of choosing from a list of prompts from former Toads. I have chosen to combine two: Fireblossom Friday, February 28, 2014 and Get Listed! with Grapeling, May 7, 2015.

“The sea always filled her with longing, though for what she was never sure.”
― Cornelia Funke, Inkheart
A light dusting of deep blue sea
washing over me
strolling along the sandy beach
beyond the waves’ reach
cherishing the languor of summer days
life drifts in a haze
basking in the glorious warmth of sun rays
until time slows to when cool nights are long
and silvered moonlight croons a mournful song
washing over me, beyond the waves’ reach, life drifts in a haze

Author’s Note: This is my first time to write an Oviellejo, which is an Old Spanish verse form (derived from ovillo, a ball of yarn). A stanza consists of 10 lines, with a rhyme scheme of AABBCCCDDC. The second line of each rhyme scheme, Line 2,4,6, is short line of up to 5 syllables. The last line is a “redondilla,” a “little round” that collects all three of the short lines. ~ from Shot Glass Journal
