#Haiku: Breath

In My Garden- Mesa, AZ

little miracles~
dandelions sowing seed
sweetest breath of life

Author’s Note: Dear All- on June 15,2021, I had an abdominal hysterectomy. A blinding cloud of pain has consumed many of my days but I am slowly recovering. This is the first poem I have written in a while. I was able to venture into my garden early this morning and captured this image with my phone camera. These little dandelion seed heads are no larger than my thumbnail, but how lovely they are to my eyes!

Tap, Tap, Tap

Public Domain Pictures

Tap,tap,tap
My heart drumming
Beating with ferocity
Filling me with anxiety
Clouding my head with all the ‘what ifs’
Long deep breaths to slow the pounding beat
Promising myself that whatever comes,
I will meet it with the same intensity and win

Author’s Note: Dear All- This is a poem I wrote in June 2020. Last year on this same day, I faced a difficult challenge (diagnosed with breast cancer June 15, 2020), and today I am faced with another- an abdominal hysterectomy. I will be hospitalized for 2-3 days. Asking for positive vibes, prayers, and healing light sent my way if you so desire. Peace and love to you all- Linda Lee Lyberg

A Timeless Patina

“Death twitches my ear;

‘Live,’ he says…

‘I’m coming.”

― Virgil

Plucking taut strings with a horsehair bow
the air fills with a deep woody melody heard
with nimble fingers upon a slender throat
each ethereal song more beautiful as wood ages
painted in a timeless patina of bronze curves

And yet a human body falters, grows frail
when touched by the same elegant hands
smooth skin wrinkles, the soul ravaged by age
and though life’s aria replays again and again
still breath finally fades as spirit withers away

#Haiku: Summer sounds

“And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.”

― F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

cicadas buzzing
hypnotic lull of sprinklers
dog days of summer

Raven and Moon

“Yours is the light by which my spirit’s born: – you are my sun, my moon, and all my stars.”

― E.E. Cummings

Black raven whispered to waning moon
I miss your face when you’re gone
I spend darkest nights longing
for you to paint blue cobalt night
with your luminous pearl sheen light~
Watching star crossed lovers kiss and swoon
while packs of grey wolves howl and croon
joyous from your magical return
and soon mother earth is whole again

Across the Sky

Photo by Marko Blažević on Unsplash

Deep in hazy eclipsed gloom
As dark sun hides full blood moon
Earth goes silent as if in prayer
With nary a bird singing there

And in the wee dawning hours
Trees are still, and bowing flowers
Hang their heads waiting for light
To dance again across the sky

Panacea, II

They are not long, the days of wine and roses. Out of a misty dream, our path emerges for a while, then closes, within a dream. –Ernest Dowson

She wallows in sombre melancholy
in shallow warmth of quivering candlelight
sipping sumptuous fruit of tangled vines, wine
a cloak of panacea for anguishing pain

Rich dark nectar blushes pale cheeks
a cascade of velvet cerise petals
stains her plump pouting lips
with its exquisite tasting blood

Burning tears fall as summer rain
spoiling the full-bodied elixir
with sober indigo melancholy
and banishing the mellow glow

She whispers of loves lost, what remains
with certainty the loss of fervent hope
drowning sorrows in self-pity and regret
as she watches the flame flicker ~ and die
