Moon Waltz

Restless moon dances to calls of the loon
from on high in a blue violet sky
tempting briny undercurrents to swoon
enticing frothy tides to fall, to rise

With each phase of the lemon chiffon sight
lusty oceans bow to her siren calls
as the sultry mistress moves through the night
twirling and swirling in a starry waltz

Perilous Precipice

Image by Jan Mallander from Pixabay

“Men argue. Nature acts.”

― Voltaire

Leaden grey clouds dot a troubled horizon
whispering ‘we yearn to rain to ease pain’
burdened with atmospheric weight
a vanta black sky turns melancholy

But today is not the day the clouds will finally rain
though harsh rolling thunder shakes the restless air
Our existence is on the edge of a perilous precipice
for we are deaf and blind to our wounded earth’s screams

The Love a Dog Leaves

We are still here
flesh and blood and bone
Yet he is gone
drifting away in melancholy
grey smoke memories
Of more vivid days

Sometimes, we hear
his demanding bark
or the tap, tap ,tap of his paws
whispering
on the cold tile floor
his restless soul
must be wandering
back and forth
over the rainbow bridge
making sure
he’s left the bones behind
for us to unearth
and find his greatest gift-
that of unconditional love.

A Brush of Wings

Image by Erik Karits from Pixabay

As a child, Rhea gravitated towards uncommon objects. She wasn’t sure why but it may have been the result of her father giving her a dead owl to play with. When her mother saw, her dad caught hell for giving a toddler a dead bird.
Now older, she never outgrew her fascination with the peculiar. One evening as she was walking to her favorite pub The Lamb and Flag, she spied a shop never seen before. A placard above the door read ‘Oddities’. But, what stopped her cold was a small wing shaped sign -‘If You are a Dreamer, Come In.’
She stepped into the candlelit shop. As she closed the door, soft feathered wings brushed against her face as an owl landed on her shoulder. Staring into her eyes, Rhea knew this was the place she had been searching for all her life.

dVerse Poets Pub: Prosery Meet Me Where The Sidewalk Ends

Author’s Note: Although most of this is fiction, my dad really did give me a dead owl to play with when I was just a toddler. My mother was furious.

#Haiku: Breath of Life

Life blooming in rocks- Mesa, AZ

lemon chiffon puffs-
growing among craggy rocks
tiny breath of life

Author’s Note: This tiny plant is growing in our front yard, which is mostly rock. The flower heads are smaller than a pencil eraser. I have no idea what they are and the leaves are as delicate as the blooms, but I suspect it is in the dandelion family. Written for Day 12 Of National Poetry Writing Month.
