“We loved with a love that was more than love.”
― Edgar Allen Poe
Twenty-four years have flown by in a flash
with hardships scattered about, but without a doubt
this year of 2020 is the hardest yet
The world’s gone insane what with climate change,
and dirty politicians lying, cheating, leading
this once great country with vicious greed
People killed because of the color of their skin
and a viral pandemic is running rampant
throughout this revered homeland
Wild fires are burning with pent up rage
while in our home an enemy emerged
here in my breast near my beating heart
We’ve fought cancer for months, refusing to give in
never wavering from our fervent belief
In the end our love and faith in God will prevail
Through these tribulations, shining through
the dark omens surrounding us everyday
is our enduring love, holding steadfast and true
So here’s to at least twenty-four more years
of cherishing life and living in peace forever
I love you my Big Viking, for there is no other

Black cows look better in the shade
Your sleek long tail swatting horse flies away
Come waltz with me under a hot molten sky
I’ll wear my sexy red dress that kisses my thighs
And caress your sweet cheeks with my gentle sighs
While we bellow a bold tune to a burgeoning full moon
In this colorful peyote dream as we soar high
Skipping from sparkling star to star as we croon.

Author’s Note: I had a little fun with this. The minute I saw this image, all I could think of was the old 80’s song “Black Cars” and it stuck so I went with it.

“Dusty hydrangeas pale as robins’ eggs. Delphiniums iridescent as butterfly wings. Cornflowers the hazy blue of the summer skies”
― Ella Griffin, The Flower Arrangement
Given the chance to start anew
To embrace my future with glee
Grateful to be free of disease
I paint my life in shades of blue.
As I bid those grey skies adieu
Chasing long shadows in dark nooks
Sad memories not worth the look
I’ll dream of how sweet life can be
If only I pause time and see
All the beauty in my life’s book.

These past few months I have been living in a dazed confusion. Between the Covid 19 virus and insane politics, I have been wandering through a murky forest. But the gut wrencher was being diagnosed with breast cancer in June.
From the moment I first heard the news, this fog engulfed my mind and heart. It’s as if I have been living in an alternate reality.
Now, thirty-two radiation treatments later (with one more remaining), I am beginning to see a sliver of hope shining far off in the distance.
Last night for the first time in months, I walked outside with my little pup into our beautiful back yard. The air is cool and soft on my skin. I look up and there she is ~ the lovely moon still there, waiting for me. Through my tears of gratefulness, I seek solace in her flawless light.
black velvet night sky
waxing crescent moon of hope
my rebirth begins

“I talk to God but the sky is empty.”
― Sylvia Plath
If every clock in the world
began moving backwards
would time cease to exist
would night become day?
If almighty God should expire
and he is the root of all love
would love too expire
and hate rule our days?
Is God extinct today?

Author’s Note: Sharing this one again from last year as it is very relevant to what is happening in our world today. I am a card carrying starry – eyed optimist, but there are times I explore extreme situations and think about the questions that come. And while I do not believe God is extinct, I yearn for more compassion and love in this world.

Rolling thunder and pounding rain
greets the ominous grayscale dawn
dark skies threatening, unburdening
heavy clouds of their watery weight.
And between the rushing torrents,
trees hang low from the strain
of dripping diamonds glistening
in stark rays of a shy peeking sun.
But once more the downpour comes
washing the gritty layers of dust away,
bidding goodbye to brutal summer
and a joyful hello to glorious autumn
as the arid desert comes alive, revived
again by the nourishing pouring rain.

Author’s Note: Sharing one from this day last year. I am so over the heat that won’t subside and having to go to radiation treatments each day. I just cannot get inspired today. Only 3 more treatments to go.

Between sky and sand we fly
never pondering why
we have the gift of wings
and a song to sing.
For we are not like mortals
who always look ahead
we accept this fate
living now before it’s too late
learning to simply be.
