“Yet what greater defeat could we suffer than to come to resemble the forces we oppose in their disrespect for human dignity?”
― Ruth Bader Ginsburg, My Own Words
And though She is gone we will rise
from the black choke of oppression
Our femininity worn with dignity
Our strength derived from tenderness
Our perseverance adorned with nobility
Our hearts tempered from roaring flames
Our capable hands will forge a new beginning
And in the aftermath of our darkest night
We will rise ~We will fight ~ We will win

Author’s Note: This was written 3 years ago when I learned my dad had died. Reposting today in memory of him.
Of course you’re an artist. You come from a family of artists. I’m an artist, your grandmother was an artist, and so was your grandfather.” – My Father

Broken shadows across the cracked ground
as summer refuses to die
the land and I are weary
day after day burning~
unrelenting rays
of intense sun
beating down
on my
breast.

Author’s Note: Line 1 is from W.S. Merwin’s “To the Light of September”. The form is a Nonet. Also, I apologize for not reading much lately. The radiation treatments make me so tired. I start reading and get sleepy and then I’m done. Eight more treatments to go. I will be glad for this part to be over.

Stella sits in her rocking chair, mesmerized by flames dancing in the stone fireplace. In front of the fire, her two old dogs Beau and Nona lay sleeping and twitching. In their dreams, they sleep with the moon and chase rabbits from star to star.
Oh, how she longs to join them, to see the world through their eyes!
To run with wild abandon of pure joy, to feel the thrill of the hunt only to have their bounty leap away and escape. The rabbit lives another day, and the dogs find a dragonfly to follow.
Life is like that sometimes. You spend so much time chasing dreams that you never realize that all along, you were living your dreams and what you have is all you need.
She closes her eyes and drifts away, running with the dogs in the star studded sky.
