The Tree and Me

“At night I dream that you and I are two plants

that grew together, roots entwined,

and that you know the earth and the rain like my mouth,

since we are made of earth and rain.”

― Pablo Neruda, Regalo de un Poeta

I sat one day staring at an old tree
far off on a distant horizon
As I meditated on its life how it came to be,
A miracle occurred

I became the tree and the tree became me
As my limbs grew heavy with body wed to sod,
and tender roots began to spread deep into earth,
I felt at peace with all

Soon I began to sprout pale emerald leaves
when cooling rains of a hot summer storm
came sweeping in with no warning
And left my heart tree sated

Caressed by a nascent breeze
it tickled behind my knobby knees
the wind sang a song through rustling leaves
As I danced to nature’s music

Kissed by a warm golden sun
which inspired my limbs to grow
while held within its loving arms
The kiss breathed life into my soul

A miracle occurred
I felt at peace with all
And left my heart tree sated
As I danced to nature’s music
The kiss breathed life into my soul

And If I…

“The moon does not fight. It attacks no one. It does not worry. It does not try to crush others. It keeps to its course, but by its very nature, it gently influences. What other body could pull an entire ocean from shore to shore? The moon is faithful to its nature and its power is never diminished.”

― Deng Ming-Dao, Everyday Tao: Living with Balance and Harmony

And if I
hold the moon in my
hands, surround
my soul with
its healing light, will all pain
align and conform?

Be set free
like music dancing
on sweet air
whispering,
Soon, this too shall pass and fade
into the cool night

To vanish
as quick as it came
become a
memory
better left buried beneath
the richness of life

A Brilliant Sheaf of Moonlight

Wikimedia Commons

My tender breast obscured by darkness inking into my soul,
an unfamiliar emotion overwhelming

This is not the me I’ve come to know, but someone different,
who lives within me, but not forever

So I am explaining a few things

When light filters in from the window, it captures my breath with its beauty
the simplicity of shadows, intriguing in this room where I spend my time

And as it fades from light to darkness,
soft colors dance and play on the falling ceiling
as I lie on the floor expecting to see a miracle

I know this time spent in the outer depths of sanity
is the gamboge panacea for my heart and for my soul,
nourishing my body with beryl prisms of sacred light

I become still while the room grows dark, and shadows disappear
As a brilliant sheaf of moonlight pierces my breast, I am healed

THROWBACK FRIDAY – Linda Lee Lyberg – What Matters

A Throwback Friday Post for Go Dog Go Cafe.

Linda Lee Lyberg's avatarGo Dog Go Café

Hushed whispers of the turning page
Leaden weight of the words in my hands.
As shadows dance on textured walls
The story unfolds in endless waves
And my mind once shackled, now free
Of heavy chains binding me to this life.

Surrounded by books for they’ve become my life
Never tiring of thoughts on the written page
For words are ancient keys to be forever free.
And each time I hold them in my hands
Memories wash over, an ocean of waves
crashing against a mentality built of solid walls.

Here in my peaceful mind, there are no walls
No death to fear for I am eternal, cherishing life
I rewrite my troubled past, ride the restless waves
As I turn yet another yellowing page
Caressing each one with soft wrinkled hands
For the poetry I write sets my anxious soul free.

In this world of words my heart roams…

Within Our Grasp

“There is a crack in everything.

That’s how the light gets in.”

― Leonard Cohen, Selected Poems, 1956-1968

And though elusive light may swing
at times beyond our narrow sight
blurry and foggy in waning shine
we only need to remember
the glimmer is within our grasp
if we but turn from the murky darkness
to embrace the luminous glow
that lives within our brilliant minds

#Quadrille: Adorned in Curly Tendrils

“Dandelion wine. The words were summer on the tongue. The wine was summer caught and stoppered…sealed away for opening on a January day with snow falling fast and the sun unseen for weeks…”

― Ray Bradbury

French thyme and greek oregano
beginning to flower
in spite of brutal heat,
an oasis in my neglected garden,
a place for bees to rest and eat
’til lavender stalks bloom-

While Venus looks on, serene —
adorned in curly tendrils
of rampant snail vine

Author’s Note: No rain in sight, and my poor garden is feeling the brunt of the summer sun. We’ve been in triple digits for weeks now, and I must stay out of the heat so no mindless puttering in my place of peace.
