“Always be like a water. Float in the times of pain or dance like waves along the wind which touches its surface.” ― Santosh Kalwar
When the waters rise I’ll go sailing
To the edge of this world
Finding my own little island
Somewhere beyond the horizon
I’ll swim in blue lagoon waters,
And gaze up into a sparkling sky
I’ll sleep in the arms of cool stars
Shimmering in an ebony night
And there I will live my life
Safely ensconced within
The fantasies of my mind
Where all is divine and kind

They watch with apathy as the rivers run dry
and ancient trees are fallen, depleting earth’s oxygen.
When toxic plastics fill the bellies of majestic beasts
who wash ashore sickened, bloating and dying.
Innocent wild animals hunted to extinction
to hang on a trophy wall as proof of strength.
Though some may grieve over wrenching scenes
I ask you, what will it take for us to bring change,
to build a bridge across the dis-eased void of
these inhumane beliefs — why don’t they see?
This planet was here long before
we humans ever came to be
full of mysterious incredible creatures,
living in balance and harmony
yet man today seems to think
that we are the superior ones
but from what I see–
Earth our home, once beautiful and pure
is now overrun with poisonous greed
that drives every thought, motive, and deed.

“Fate whispers to the warrior, ‘You cannot withstand the storm.’ The warrior whispers back, ‘I am the storm.’” – Unknown
You are not welcome here begone
For this is a body of peace and grace
There is no place for the likes of you
Lurking undercover my skin and bone
Trying to invade my sacred space
How dare you feast on my flesh
Insinuate yourself into my life
I’m telling you now
You will not win over me
Love will conquer you
Strength will conquer you
Faith will conquer you
So you’d best retreat
Back to hell
Running with your tail
Between your insidious legs
Howling at the blood moon
Over your resounding defeat
While the sky full of brilliant stars
Rejoices and sings with me
Of my valiant victory for
I AM A WARRIOR

Dearest Readers: This afternoon at 1:30 Arizona time, I have an appointment with a breast cancer surgeon. I recently had an abnormal mammogram followed by an ultrasound, and there is a nodule in my left breast. I don’t know what it is yet, but I am preparing myself mentally and physically for whatever comes as my doctor says it’s ‘highly suggestive.’ I am humbly asking for prayers, healing light, positive thoughts, and love vibes. You are such an amazing community of warriors, magical thinkers, poets, and storytellers and I cherish you all. – With Peace and Love, Linda

You will not break me
those that came before you tried
The dark man with black eyes
‘It’s for your own good’
as he raised his deformed hand
purple bruised skin
he tried to whip me
into submission —
for I was not his child
the damage he inflicted
more mental than physical
but I refused to give in
to his sordid whims.
Along came the hungry lion
feeding on the lamb
of innocent youth
a naive girl —
with a narrow world
stalking my every move
asking me to prove
my love, so I did
and the only light
that came from it
was a beautiful child
in my likeness
born with wisdom
in her eyes.
And then, the crooner
the devil in disguise
charming with his lies
a mental case
that embraced
the darkness
in his soul —
consuming my light
to build his fire
from within
but in the end
he did not win.
Through all my life
This body mine —
this brilliant mind
with scars
with flaws
with tender cause
will always be
my sanctuary —
and no one will
ever take that
from me.

“So, this is it?”
“Yes, this is it.”
As she gives me the heart shaped stone, her fingers caress my palm. There is no mistaking the spark of electricity that surges and warms my calloused hand. I look into her blue-black eyes, startled by the rush of blood.
“Are you sure this will work Maia? This looks to be nothing more than a common stone.”
“Do you doubt me? Are you sure about this?”
I hang my head to hide tears. “Yes. I can’t go on without her.”
“Very well. When the village clock strikes twelve on the eve of the full harvest moon, bury the stone in her grave. She will rise within three days time, but I warn you, she will be different.”
Her warning echoes in my grief stricken heart as we go in different directions down the imperturbable street.
