#American Sentence Sunday: Be the Fish

Be the swimming fish, feeling water’s silk caress as you glide through life.

Author’s Note: The rules of an American Sentence are very simple. The poem is one sentence, 17 syllables long. It was invented by Allen Ginsberg because he felt that haiku didn’t work as well in English.

Come, Sip

Come, sip with me my darling this fine sherry of Spain,

I’ll regale you with my devilish stories and once again,

in the prevailing shadows of dancing candlelight

your eyes will meet mine and we will dine

on the love in each other’s eyes.

#Triolet: Rebirth

Tiny seeds lie in wait for spring
As gentle rains soak mother earth
In budding trees, mockingbirds sing
While the seeds lie in wait for spring
Butterflies emerge, taking wing
When the land prepares for rebirth
Tiny seeds lie in wait for spring
As gentle rains soak mother earth

The Canvas Sky

The artistic sun is always changing,
rearranging colorful paints on its pallet
splashing brilliant shades across the canvas sky
with each rise and set, no two ever the same

Some mornings dawn overcast and dreary
with grey clouds cloaking promising hues
while others awaken with a smile, cheery
in vivid shades of yellow and cerulean blue

In the twilight hours when day is almost done
the copper orb sinks low on the welcoming horizon,
making one last effort to leave the world inspired
in shades of violet, wood thrush gold, and orange
before the next vibrant dayspring arises

#Tanka: Breathe

slowing a heart beat

enlightenment between breaths

tranquil resting place

where horizon and land meet

under an apricot sky
