The Reaper
-Linda Lee Lyberg
Every moment we lose someone
We learn the meaning of sympathy
How grief will hurt and leave us undone
But in it’s place grows sweet empathy.
For grieving leaves within its wake
A sharp and undeniable acceptance
That we must endure our true fate
Without vile anger and resistance.
People we love will come and go
All through our existence and years
When Grim Reaper comes, we will know
Our eyes and soul are flooded with tears.
Salty tears of grief are God’s tender way
Of cleansing our weary souls once more
And helping us to live out all our days
Waiting to see those we love and adore.

Sympathy
Sad, but lovely. Don’t Fear The Reaper is a great song.

I don’t sense this is a embrace him kind of poem. What I read is that someone learns from grieving to be more sympathetic with those who suffer. We become more as we await a promised reunion.

You are so correct Charley. Grieving changes you- your choice is how it changes you. That was the message. Thank you.

Sympathy is the hardest for me to express, and true empathy the hardest to gain. Sad but true.
