#Haiku: Snow on Desert

Cactus Snow - panoramio

Desert sun melting

Hope springs forth from barren land

Parched land comes alive.

My response to Carpe Diem #1299 Snow on the Desert

This month CDHK is all about the beauty of quatrains created by Omar Khayyam, a 12th century Persian poet, The Rubaiyat.  Today’s episode is called ‘Snow on the Desert’, taken from Quatrain XVI.

The Worldly Hope men set their Hearts upon
Turns Ashes – or it prospers; and anon,
Like Snow upon the Desert’s dusty Face
Lighting a little Hour or two – is gone

  1. I thoroughly enjoy the image and haiku. For me your words light up the connection between snow and life/hope in the desert (not quite the same experience as here where I live, in a snow belt)
