Broken Wing

She used to sway and dance
on the water’s grassy shore
singing their lulling chord.
She flew among bright stars
their reflection undulating
on waves of the azure ocean
their beauty never abating.
sending her soul careening
leaving her to wonder why.
As she lay dying in her watery grave
she remembers how once she swayed
and now with only one wing to unfurl
she soars to the light, as her life fades.

dVerse tonight with a call for ekphrastic poems
I like the “wondering why” with her “soul careening”.

This is so very poignant. You capture the painting beautifully – the broken wing, unable to soar. I hope she finds peace.

I like the wondering why and her life ending so suddenly, so sadly. I chose the same picture.

This one would have worked for yesterday’s prompt as well. Love the way you gave life to the bird as she lingers between life and death.

I am so very sorry. I lost mine almost 7 years ago. It’s hard without her. I wish I could tell you it gets easier, but it doesn’t. You learn to get through it and find joy where you can.

Hi. I have tried to reply and thank you, but I kept getting “Reply failed. Try again”. I hope this one goes through and I hope you didn’t get twenty copies of my previous attempts. Thank you for your kind thought.
