Slipping

The scent of earth after a gentle rain
Memories washed in shades of autumn’s gold
Tempers the black grief, relieves the harsh pain
Seasons changing leaves once brilliant yet cold
Painting hushed shadows as evening’s sun falls
Soft chittering of birds high in the trees
A torn heart recalls the last plaintive call
Now slipping from life a pained soul is free

Interweaving death with season’s changing captures so much of the anguish, and at the same time acceptance of a “pained soul’s” departure.

That pain in the end, can be liberating. Still, a beautiful painting of the autumn’s season.

Nice metrical sound and I liked the pained ending with the soul being set free.

Nice Iambic pentameter example, images of wet, dark slippery leaves, the epitome of fall.
