Love Lies Bleeding

Bella: This was taken Day 2
Mesa, AZ

Love lies bleeding from my eyes

As hot tears fall upon downy feathers

I hold you close to my beating heart

This hollow body light as air

Your magnificent soul no longer there

And though my whole being aches

With the pain you must have felt

I know you are at peace

Flying somewhere high

Chasing vibrant rainbows

In the vast turquoise sky

Author’s Note: For those of you new to my site, Bella was a Great Horned Owl who had been coming to my yard for 6 days. There are several posts about her visits. Yesterday, I found her lying face down with her wings spread. I am devastated over her death, but at the same time honored she chose to honor me with her presence.

  1. We have connections to the creatures here on our planet that we have only begun to understand. Your magnificent owl, Bella, wanted to spend her last days with you. It is all a wonderful mystery, isn’t it.

  2. Look how she trusted you, to come right up under your porch.she felt safe and knew you cared for her. She chose you, for her hospice days. Those owl feathers are a gift. You might prayerfully harvest a few in remembrance, when they loosen. Your coloured bottles are beautiful. I always wanted something like that.

    • Thank you so much Sherry. I called Wild at Heart to see if they wanted to examine her to try to find out why she died. My hope is it will help them with other owls. And the bottle wall is a project Pete and I did together. ❤️
