Musings on Life, Love, and Linguine-Poetry & Writing
In my aging calloused hands I’ve held
the words of many a restless dreamer
from true historians to fantasy fairy tales
to rebellious poets and mystery characters
I’ve read the words of humble Buddha,
and heraldic stories of epic proportions
and traveled uncivilized countries through
the eyes of adventurous explorers
I’ve fallen down the rabbit hole with Alice,
and dined with Freya the vicious ice queen
in her cold arctic blue crystal palace
My wandering mind has ‘seen’ many wondrous things
I take all the words I’ve read, put black ink to paper
sewing creamy parchment pages together
into knotty ties that bind, then glue them onto leather
adorned with a multi-layered stiffened spine
Each book I create is its own work of art
for every page is crafted with utmost care
Each rich embossed cover touched by my hands
now out in this vast changing world somewhere

What a magical craft this is, and so sad that it is a dying art. I love the character you’ve created here, and I wonder what would happen if he met Bjorn’s Aged Librarian?

I was also thinking this bookbinder should meet Bjorn’s Librarian!
Such an expressive description of this craftsperson, Linda. Lovely!

There is still something magical about a leather bound vintage book with illustration pages. Love your character, and really enjoyed the read.

For a few years now I’ve been creating junk journals—books created with found pages, miscellaneous art, personal notes and poems–bound by hand stitching into the spine of a rescued discarded book,. Your poem reminded me of that hobby, which I enjoy so much.
