Haibun: Voices of Autumn

Golden pink-tinged light colors my bedroom as it peeks through the sliver in the drapes. Stirring from a deep sleep, it is not yet six am as the house is cold and the heater has not come on.
Welcome to fall in Arizona- cold mornings, warm sunny afternoons, cold nights. Still, I much prefer this to snow any day.
Even through the insulated windows, I hear the faint sound of early morning birdsong. A flock of doves must be high in the mesquite, worshipping the rising sun with their coos.

  2. Lovely use of colour in the opening paragraph, Linda, which tells me that you are blessed with a beautiful landscape in Arizona. Do you ever get snow? I enjoyed the different sounds of birdsong and ‘clanging copper chimes’.

  3. Beautiful Linda! Reminds me of my year living in Tucson, and motorcycling west out through Gates Pass into the Sonoran desert among the amazing Saguaro cacti. Night rides were really cool, but you had to watch out for critters, especially rattlesnakes warming themselves at night on the more remote roadways, never hit one, but I have swerved to miss a couple back then.
