“Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding.”- Kahlil Gibran
Listening to the ocean, an echo in the shell where life once dwelled
I find the missing pieces of my heart, two halves now whole
With wise eyes closed, I know this intimate trodden path well.
For my pain is the growing out of my now useless old cocoon
Bringing a deep new understanding of what is real, what is true
And now becoming a butterfly with wet wings fresh and new.

Blush velvet evening sky
kisses luscious perfumed air
fragrant breeze of wildflowers
heady scent of green grass, magic abides
in glossy pink porcelain champagne clouds
as the lonely woman recites poetry
to the dazzling stars, remembering
every line of his handsome face.

“When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.”
― Kahlil Gibran
You left this earthly plane eight years ago today,
though yesterday the sun was hot and the air balmy,
this morning dawned in harsh monochrome
and once blue skies are now painted charcoal grey.
Soon the leaden sky will cry tears from a summer storm
and then my own will fall, sliding down my aging face
blurring these scrawled words on the wrinkled page:
‘I miss you mom, every single day.’
