Wind Whispers

The Turning Point
David Bülow
Used with Permission

And words are all that’s left to give for my days on this earth are dwindling
my bones are soft, my body aches, and my sallow flesh is dwindling

So I’ll throw these pages out the window, and profound words I send
Leaving my last legacy in the fearless whispers of the cold unsettling wind

Hakai Challenge #71 Still Cold

Poisoned Thorns

In the hours when the earth moves between darkness and light,

where murky shadows whisper and doubtful thoughts slip through

making my heart wonder what might have been had you stayed,

what color would the (bed) of roses be today where we once lay

would they be bloody red petals hewn to black and blue

or the shimmering chartreuse of clear morning dew?

Regardless of the outcome, still the poisoned thorns

would prick this fragile soul and mortally wound…

Marvel-

lethargic honeybees
endeavor to gather a sweet
array
of each fragrant flower’s essence
to create a complex

Four Hummingbirds

Photo by James Wainscoat on Unsplash

I watched four hummingbirds bathe before the sun arose
swimming in the fountain, with fluttering wings and toes
they sailed into the air, returned and took a deep dive
chirping to each other, drowning in ecstasy’s throes

Their innocence of being, in the moment alive
sent my heart leaping and brought joyous tears to these eyes
I saw true happiness with their feathers gleaming wet
they illuminated my day, infused with delight

Author’s note: I was blessed to actually see this little miracle first thing the other morning. I was so struck by their pure joy, it stayed with me all day, and even now brings a smile. My attempt at a Rubaiyat.
