Grief Train

Holding on to acrid grief
in day break’s waking hours
the bitterest joy thief
who usurps all your powers.

As you ride the roaring grief train
reliving regretful moments past
stones on tracks bring eloquent pain
as you recall the words spoken last.

And if you had it to do again
could you change hurtful times
would will or fate eventually win
for whom the death bell chimes.
