My Love is the Blue Dragonfly…

“The dragonfly exists because it exists and for no other reason.”

― Marty Rubin

My love is the cool autumn breeze
whistling through flame coppered leaves
caressing your furrowed brow,
and calming your worried heart

My love is the blue dragonfly
flitting in blush morning air
my love is the brilliant sun shining
on delicate iridescent wings

My love is the grey mockingbird
singing from high in the Mesquite
crooning a soul song of devotion
until our last days are through.

Author’s Note: Happy 23rd wedding anniversary to My Big Viking, the man who has captured my heart and continues to surprise me every day. I will love you today, tomorrow, and through eternity-wherever that may lead.

Slippers of Green and Gold

Autumn treads in wearing silk slippers
made of emerald green and gold
King of all seasons this,
as a rich tapestry unfolds
in a wealth of brilliant jeweled colors
sparkling in the sun on rolling hills.

Majestic noble trees are now dressed
in a lush display of finery, their best
with crowning touches of nature’s palette
sunbaked orange, terra cotta, and marigold.

Feasting our eyes on a plump harvest moon
we get drunk on its sparkling wine
and bask in the royal gilded light
savoring fall evenings fresh and cool
for soon the ice princess will arrive.

Summer’s Surrender

“Night, which in Autumn seems to fall from the sky so suddenly, chilled us…”
― Jules Barbey d’Aurevilly, The Crimson Curtain

Summer
yields to autumn
in riotous colors
wood thrush gold, crimson red, russet
leaves fall
surrendering to umber earth
as harvest moon shines bright
welcoming cool
evenings

Author’s Note: For fall, I used ‘yields’, and for give I used ‘surrendering.’

Where I Belong

I’m coming home ~
Yellow ribbons high in a turquoise sky
dancing in the crisp morning breeze
with peach dawn wisps of dreams
It’s been too long ~
since I’ve seen your sweet smile
your grace, your loving eyes
and as I watch the yellow ribbons
dancing in the turquoise sky
I’m coming home
where I belong ~
right by your side
It won’t be long
Coz I’m coming home.

Over at Imaginary Garden with Real Toads, Susie has asked us to pick a song from the videos, listen to it, and write about the colors it brings to mind. I chose Coming Home, by Leon Bridges.

Cat Bird

I am a cage in search of a bird
a bird with wings, a voice to sing
upon my gold perch it will swing
though this bird must be softly furred,
Not feathered like the common herd
but fuzzy purple, fit for kings
around it’s neck three magic rings
so it meows like a cat-bird.

Amaya is hosting Poetics tonight at dVerse and has asked us to pick a Franz Kafka quote from the list provided and write a children’s story or poem. This is the quote I chose: “I am a cage, in search of a bird.” from The Blue Octavo Notebooks

#Tanka: Autumn Equinox

emerald leaves turn
painted in warm earthy hues
autumn equinox
coloring summer’s landscape
shades of pumpkin, yellow, brown

The Extinction of God

If every clock in the world
began moving backwards
would time cease to exist
would night become day?

If almighty God should expire
and he is the root of all love
would love too expire
and hate rule our days?

Is God extinct today?

Author’s Note: I am a card carrying starry – eyed optimist, but there are times I explore extreme situations and think about the questions that come. And while I do not believe God is extinct, I yearn for more compassion and love in this world.

I am hosting at dVerse today and we are writing a Quadrille, which is exactly 44 words, excluding the title. Do come join in!
