Squander not
precious words and minds
ideas
are shadows
of thoughts seeking and drifting
into splendid light
Luminous
colors of fire dance
brilliant mind
romancing
melodic syllables sing
music to poets

Colleen’s Weekly Poetry Challenge: No. 133 Synonyms only- Plan & Spend. I used ‘ideas’ for plan, and ‘squander’ for spend. The form is a double Shadorma.

And should the treasured words cease to mean anything at all
what more is there to say for the epitaph is written on the wall
for when true love staggers and flees, the silent treatment begins
as we play over in our tortured minds the other’s mortal sins
The distance from one another grows with each passing day
Lips that once whispered I love you have nothing kind to say
as the gaping chasm between two lovers splits and deepens
the only sound heard in the darkness is one of them weeping

spirit seeks solace
preparing for life journey
swift change is coming
joyful butterfly dreaming
emerging from chrysalis
a heart opening
soft whisper of wings
fluttering in the fresh air
nature’s miracle

Join us at Carpe Diem, where we have been given the word ‘butterfly’ to create a haiku, and then a Troiku. I used a haiku I created for Carpe Diem’s Light Retreat in March 2019 to create my Troiku.

When the world weighs heavy on this tender heart,
I get out in glorious nature and take a walk
to feel the warm sun upon my wrinkled face,
to marvel at the majesty of graceful trees,
swaying in an elegant waltz with the summer breeze
I hear the soothing trill of doves perched among the leaves
chasing elusive shade throughout the sweltering day
as they rest, take a break from the scorching heat
I continue my stroll, to find the balance I seek
With each footstep, my worries become lighter
I find myself smiling at the happy brilliant flowers
and marvel how they stand tall in daybreak’s hours
never faltering or worrying about anything at all

ancient cypress
gnarled and bent from ocean’s wind
roots buried down deep
leaning over the light
chasing warm sun-rays of joy
ancient sentinel
at sunrise
green shadows in golden glow
lone hawk soars above

“Darkness came, full of moths and beetles. I was oppressed by the velvety emptiness of the word and swathes of soft grass. Then the fumes of the night put me to sleep.”- Laurie Lee
Night’s ink spills into my haunted garden
while torchlights flicker in the anxious wind
I sit alone sipping a glass of wine, listening
to rasping cries of lonesome crickets calling
I ponder what brought them and I to this ‘in limbo’ fate
of being forever alone yet not, crooning a mournful song
Emptiness echoes in the silence and sends my soul drifting
dreaming of you again falling in fragrant petals, and so I sleep

Alone on the beach
gentle waves lapping at toes
footprints in moonlight
only the cries of seagulls
the rush of skittering crabs
as tides ebb and flow
breathing silence
inhaling the fragrant scent
salty grass marshes
