No Tomorrow

“These violent delights have violent ends And in their triump die, like fire and powder Which, as they kiss, consume” ― William Shakespeare,Romeo and Juliet

Living as if there were no tomorrow
Feasting on the fatted lamb
Supping wine from a crystal cup,
Selling our souls like Judas
For thirty pieces of silver
What fate have we brought to man
As we raped the earth of its riches
Did we not see the consequences
For we created a potent elixir
With every ancient tree felled
Every magnificent ocean tainted
Every creature that has perished forever
Until Mother Earth said, ENOUGH.

Soul Whispers

“The soul is silent. If it speaks at all it speaks in dreams.” ~ Louise Glück

Soul whispers, speaks to me

Plants a seed in my restless dreams

Seeking solace in darkest night

Tiny pod yearns for healing sun

To sprout, blossom and grow

And become a secret poem

That once exposed to the light

Velvet petals bloom, a beautful red rose

Dressed in splendiferous repose

A handsome Pup

Ricky Bobby aka Bubba
Mesa, AZ

Cats were once my pet of choice
With their grace and aloof manner
I, their servant night and day fulfilling every whim
Electric fountains to encourage them to sip
For they loved their running water drips
I spent long hours amused by their antics
When they deemed to grace me
With their regal presence

But then along came a little brindled dog
With a soulful air and a heart as big as God’s
A handsome pup who only wanted one thing
To have the opportunity to show me love was real
For love you see my friends spills forth, overflowing
From his beautiful coffee brown eyes
Touching my broken heart, helping me to heal
Comforting me in the long dark nights

Tall Occotillo

Tall occotillo caned and brown
Bursting in colors of spring
As spiny canes become lush and green
Crowned by a fiery flush
Of vivid persimmon flowers
Standing tall and proud
Kissing the sapphire blue sky
While jeweled hummingbirds dart and zoom
Among brilliant blooms

Tainted Life

“…witches are quite careful about what they say. You can never be sure what the words are going to do when they’re out of earshot.” ~ Terry Pratchett

Bitter salt of regret fills my shameful mouth

After the hurtful wishes I spat into tense air

Their razor thorns have pierced your heart

As I see brown eyes brim with tears, spilling

All my rampant fears come rising up

As I stand here speechless, ashamed

To say ‘I’m sorry’ seems so trite, so insignificant

For it breaks my heart to see you cry knowing it was I

Who broke the smile of your sweet soul

‘Tis a memory I’ll have to live with

For the rest of my tainted life

Imaginary Garden with Real Toads: April 2020 Days 16-20 When Good Wishes Go Bad

Skylover’s Word List: Salt

Under the Canopy of the Fruiting Fig

Under the canopy of the fruiting fig

I beckon you to come my sweet

Lie with me on a soft cotton throw

As we gaze at the baby blue sky

Peeking through emerald leaves

And free our dreams to wander

Among wispy dandelion clouds

Let’s cherish this delightful spring day

As it dances lightly on blossom scented air

Let’s savor these perfect moments before

Jackboots of summer fiercely march in

For then there will be no welcome reprieve

From the desert’s scorching sun

Come Sit With Me

Garden Bench, Mesa AZ

My dearest love be not dismayed

For the healing sun still rises and shines

As nature creates miracles each dawning day

Of clouds painted with hope on an azure canvas sky

Take a walk, feel the refreshing morning breeze

Stirring wisps of graying hair about your face

Pause to watch pollen laden honeybees

Soaring through air with beauty and grace

Come sit in the bountiful garden with me

On the ancient bench made with reclaimed wood

Raise your eyes to the lovely heavens and see

All the beauty and grace and good
