Casting Shadows

Cypress bows in autumn rain
Bearing weight as if in pain
Casting shades on what remains
Fury of the storm unrestrained
As limbs of trees lay broken, felled.
Thunderclouds gather, striking fear
Roosting birds take wing, disappear
Sensing the change in atmosphere
As a once calm wind heaved and swelled.

Written for dVerse where Frank is hosting ‘Imitation Practice’. I’m not sure how well I did as far as the meter goes, but I gave it a shot. The rhyme scheme is AAAABCCCB.

Author’s Note: I’ve got rain on the brain. It’s rained for three days, which is unusual for us here in Arizona. I’m not complaining; we really needed it. And I do love the freshness it brings.

#Troiku: Autumn Rain Falling

Rose Garden in rain

autumn rain falling
walking under dripping trees
every leaf glistens

autumn rain falling
soaking the dry rose garden
drenched blossoms bowing

walking under dripping trees
drops trickling down my neck
cold morning shivers

every leaf glistens
diamonds shine in hazy sun
before clouds return

Carpe Diem #1784- Soaking wet (Crossroads) : Our challenge is to create a ‘fusion ‘haiku from the following haiku, and then write a Troiku with the fusion- ku.

soaking wet
I can’t read the letters
on the signpost

walking through
the bush clover, the pampas grass,
walking on through them

Stark Array

Surrounded by petrichor of tranquil rain
as it mingled with fragrance of wet roses
my soul awakens, reminiscing love’s kiss
glistening raindrops cooling hot tears
stars in our eyes falling, falling down
From threatening skies ~
Hearts cloaked in heavy perfume of flowers
at our feet in stark array, drifting pink petals
in our swirling souls, silvery essence of hope
as sensual aromas of luscious peaches linger
amid wistful sighs of our fevered searching lips.

Of Essence and Blind Mice

Flickr.com

The slippery scales of passing time
snake through the tall grass of my fertile mind,
tipping the balance between dreams and reality
as I search for the essence of a writer’s life.

For life must be more than simple breathing,
and leaping through years with eyes closed,
or abiding by the rules that society imposes
And I’ll not follow the blind mice masses
nor will I be a conforming ‘normal’ soul.

As for me I’ll continue to shush
through tall fragrant fields of dried grass
a lioness, searching for a tempting feast
on which to dull harsh reality’s teeth
that bite into the very heart of me.

With hope I’ll find what I’m searching for
in dried stalks of swaying ochre wheat
and above in the green sea of flickering stars
or when October’s sanguine hunter’s moon
Shines its mysterious red light on me.

Taking Flight

Ancient
voices echo
into the vast abyss
chanting to persimmon sunrise
ancestor spirits sing
in sacred light,
take flight

Miss Pink Petunia

Miss Pink Petunia found a place to grow tender roots
nestled safe
in a pebbled crumbling sidewalk crack
ever persevering, she avoided heavy boots.

Though no one reassured or even believed,
Petunia bathed
in refreshing rains of spring
and blossomed all through summer’s eve.
